direct link to locator?

We'd like to have combination online retailer and brick/mortar store locator page. My question is, can i setup my own form (with just zipcode) to submit to the store locator and have it load the store listings/map then? This would be from a k2 item.

Actually, I just placed the module itself and it worked great - at first. I initially created a menu item from the component and that worked. I added search module to the page and that worked. I disabled the component menu item and the module stopped working.

What we are going for is not to have a map store locator link at all. We want to link to a page that, a product locator if you will, and that will have two options. A link to online retailers, and the store locator module, after entering search zip code there, then they view the map/directions.

But we don't want a direct link so how can i disable the menu item and still have the module work?
