- What is Data Transfer?
Data transfer is a process where information is transferred from one form of computer media to another. It is based on the number of visitors that you have and the amount of data that they request from your site. In other words, data transfer is the number of pages and images that visitors to your site download/view.
- Do you support databases?
Yes, we currently support MySQL, MSSQL, and PostgreSQL databases.
- What is Traffic? Is it the same as Data Transfer?
Yes it is. Traffic is the amount of data transmitted from your web site. Smaller business sites with few visitors rarely use more than 1000MB/month, which is 1GB.
Larger companies can use up many GB per month. Depending on the size of your site and the popularity of your website you may need more than the minimum data transfer requirements. Contact us for more information.
- How does data transfer affect my account?
Traffic, bandwidth, and data transfer refer to the amount of information transmitted to
and from your website by you and your visitors. The following are the factors for your
traffic usage:
1. The amount of traffic you receive (hits to your website)
2. The size of your site
3. The types of files offered on your site
If your website is 1 MB including pages and images, and 100 people visited your
website and viewed all the pages, the traffic generated would be approximately 100 MB.

Unsolicited email or SPAM is any email message received where the recipient did not specifically ask to receive it.

This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
' . If you can not change your from: address you put your e-mail address in the 'reply-to:' field. All other settings such as incoming and outgoing mailserver should be left unchanged.
- How do I change my MX records?
Login to the members section of the website and click on Domain info in the Domain Settings menu. You can change it there. On the page that appears, click the Edit icon in the DNS Configuration field. This link will take you to the DNS Configuration page.
Custom MX records should be added when you want to use your external mail servers to process your e-mail. To use your external servers instead of those you get by default, you need to disable mail service on the Domain Settings page of your CP. To use the external mail servers in addition to those you get by default, you need to keep mail service enabled in the control panel. The priority of the custom MX record will define whether your external servers will act as secondary or primary. For instance, if you set the priority of the custom MX record higher than 10 (e.g. 11), your external mail server will be used as secondary. If you set the priority of the custom MX record lower than 10 (e.g. 9), your external mail server will be used as primary. In the latter case, your mail will be sent to your external mail server until it goes down or becomes otherwise inaccessible. Then the default mail server will take over.
When you enable mail service in the control panel, an MX record is created automatically in the DNS zone. If mail service is disabled, this built-in MX record remains in the DNS zone, and you can remove it manually using the control panel interface.

- What do the error codes mean when I try to send email?
When your email can not be delivered the Sysgen Media SMTP server sends
you a notification which includes a standard error
message associated with the real problem.
Each code is composed of three digits (X.X.X). The first digit gives
the status of the email message:
- 2 means the email was successfully sent;
- 4 means there was a temporary
problem while sending the email (your email server
may try to send it again or you have to resend it,
depending on your server settings). Such error messages are using
codes like 4.X.X, where X.X are used in order to give more
precise information about the error;
- 5 means there
is a permanent/fatal error related to the email (the
email address of the receiver does not exist, it doesn't accept
emails from you, etc). Such error messages are using codes like
5.X.X, where X.X are used in order to give more precise information
about the error.

File Transfer (FTP)
- What is FTP?
FTP or File Transfer Protocol is a method used to copy files from your computer to our server. Most FTP programs will ask for the server name, user name, and password.
- Server Name - This is your domain name (ie. yourname.com or yourname.sysgenmedia.net)
- User Name - This is the login name you specified on your sign-up form, it was also e-mailed to you in our welcoming e-mail.
- User Name - This is the login name you specified on your sign-up form, it was also e-mailed to you in our welcoming e-mail.
- Can you recommend any FTP programs?
- How do I upload my files to my web site?
Once connected you will see a listing of files within your site. You will also see a folder with the name of your domain(example.com).
On the left-hand side will be files on your hard drive and on the right-hand side will be files on our server. When you are ready to upload your files to our server, change the directory on our server by clicking on the folder named after your domain. Then drag the files you wished to be copied from the left-hand side to the right-hand side.
You must place all your html and image files in the directory named after your domain(example.com). Only files placed in the domain's directory can be viewed on your website. Keep all filenames in lowercase characters. Your main page should be called index.html or index.htm.The webserver first looks for index.html and if not there it looks for index.htm
- What transfer type should I use
Most FTP programs have a feature called 'auto-detect' that will send the files in the correct format. To transfer html files, cgi scripts or text files, you must choose 'ascii' mode. To transfer images (eg. gif or jpg photos and images) you must choose 'binary'.

Site Promotion
- How do I submit my site to a search engine?
The most effective way is to visit each of the top search engines and ask them to add your site. These search engines and web directories will require your URL. The URL (Universal Resource Locator) is your full website address (for example http://yourdomain.com or http://yourdomain.SysgenMedia.net).
Click on any of the following search engine links as they will lead you to their website submission page. If a search engine of your preference is not listed, simply go to to the search engine site and look for a link called 'add URL' or 'add website'
Yahoo! | Google | MSN
- What else can I do to promote my site?
Many people forget this, but it is very important that you advertise your website on all your company stationary and business cards. Its the easiest and one of the most affordable and effective ways of advertising your website.
