They wanted to create an online store which would maintain between 2 and 5 million products with similar products from multiple vendors. They needed an eCommerce platform which could reliably handle both importing and searching products on this massive scale, without an enterprise price tag.

We researched the various open-source options available, and eventually settled on using the Magento platform. However, we found that with more than about 10,000 products Magento slows to a crawl. We needed to import millions at a time. After many hours digging through Magento's code  we were able to achieve amazing speed improvements.

Through this project we have become recognized Magento experts. We have achieved import speeds and search speeds with large numbers of products that no one else has been able to. We also have set up a custom Magento hosting environment to generally improve the speed of a Magento-based eCommerce website.
